Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is r esponsible to plan inbound orders into Company distribution centers, consolidating orders for cost savings while maintaining service levels; works with carrier partners, internal and external customers and distribution center personnel. Identifies and analyzes opportunities to increase inbound freight handling, selecting the most   cost-effective   fleet/carrier and utilizing contracted rates based on revenue and volume. Ensure high quality, cost effective and timely logistics services that meet customer expectations and business objectives.  

Here’s what you’ll do:  

  • Determine the most efficient, economical and   cost effective   routes and shipping methods utilizing planning and optimization software and established fleet/carrier rates.  

  • Consolidate, plan and submit inbound orders to fleets/carriers using the Transportation Management System.  

  • Ensure high quality, cost effective and timely logistics services that meet customer expectations and business objectives.  

  • Provide outstanding customer service to carrier partners, internal and external customers and distribution center personnel.  

  • Negotiate with customers on contract rates and on spot quote basis,   insuring   profitability on all miles traveled.  

  • Determine and implement corrective action for freight lanes outside cost and service parameters; work with dispatchers, transportation managers, external sales/carrier companies, etc. to ensure resolution of issues.  

  • Identify and analyze opportunities to increase inbound freight handling and capitalize on new opportunities through networking relationships and calls from brokers/business.  

  • Conduct analysis between current vendors and new opportunities to determine cost effectiveness; make recommendations to management based on such analysis.  

  • Responsible for problem resolution related to logistics working with carriers and internal departments as necessary to ensure resolution.  

  • Investigate causes of over short and damage claims.  

  • Resolve freight invoice discrepancies and mitigate any accessorial charges.  

  • Assist carriers with issues related to loading, unloading, appointments, unplanned accessorial and communicate with appropriate personnel as necessary.  

  • Monitor and schedule shipments to ensure on-time delivery and communicate issues to distribution centers and procurement.  

  • Generate and review operational reports (i.e., shipment, purchase order, etc.), and prior day loads to identify both successes and issues related to service metrics; follow up and provide status updates accordingly.  

  • Assist with new and existing carrier   development;   i.e., on-boarding, issue resolution, network growth, bid process, etc.  

  • Analyze existing shipping processes and procedures, identify areas of improvement, assist with implementation of changes as needed.  

  • Participate on project teams for supply chain initiatives (i.e., new facilities, vendor changes, etc.) as assigned.  

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed  

Here’s what you’ll need:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Logistics or   other   related field .  

  • Experience in a related field is a plus.  

  • Experience with transportation optimization tools   is   a plus .  

  • Familiarity with all transportation modes.  

  • Basic understanding of supply chains, carrier pricing and warehouse operations.  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Strong organization, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.  

  • Must have a strong commitment to customer service, solution execution and follow through.  

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, most specifically Excel skills. Ability to travel as required (approximately up to 10%).

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high in distribution settings. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
