We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented General Construction Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates across a variety of scopes, including structural concrete, core/shell, wood and metal framing, drywall, and related interior and exterior systems. The ideal candidate will be experienced in reading construction documents, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure cost-effective and feasible project planning.
What You'll Do
Develop detailed estimates for projects involving structural concrete, core/shell construction, framing (wood/metal), drywall, insulation, and related systems.
Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs using construction drawings, specifications, and field data.
Analyze subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scopes.
Prepare and submit competitive bid proposals, including preliminary budgets, hard bids, and negotiated pricing.
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and architects to clarify scopes, value engineer where necessary, and align estimates with project goals.
Utilize digital takeoff and estimating tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, ProEst) for precise cost modeling and scope documentation.
Track material pricing trends, labor productivity, and regional market conditions to keep estimates accurate and competitive.
Support procurement efforts by identifying long-lead items, potential cost risks, and scope gaps during preconstruction.
Ensure estimates reflect current building codes, local regulations, and construction best practices.
What You'll Need
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of construction estimating experience, including framing, drywall, concrete, and shell work (commercial and/or residential).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of structural systems, vertical and horizontal concrete, framing methods, interior and exterior finishes, and shell building components.
Blueprint Fluency: Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings.
Software Proficiency: Skilled in Bluebeam, ProEst, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar estimating platforms.
Communication Skills: Excellent collaboration and communication skills with both internal teams and external vendors/trades.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple bids and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
