San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Bilingual-Spanish Community Initiatives Coordinator for our Community Engagement team!

What you’ll do:

  • Provides case management services for community members in need of additional support by directing to community resources and San Diego Humane Society programs, helping navigate options and making referrals to social service organizations as appropriate.
  • Coordinates supported self-rehoming program to serve families facing separation from their pets, including proactive outreach, assistance with creating pet profiles, providing ongoing support, and seeking alternative retention resources .
  • Supports the safety net foster program by enrolling new families, providing ongoing case management for enrolled families, and collaborating with internal teams and volunteers regarding animal processing and placement . Conducts weekly check-ins for safety net foster program foster volunteers.
  • Assists with creating and updating community resource materials.
  • Recruits, trains and supports communication and recognition efforts for volunteers.
  • Commutes to various locations throughout San Diego County. May be required to use own vehicle as necessary (reimbursement available for pre-approved business-related travel).
 

What we’re looking for:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, coursework in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a position that has involved interacting with diverse communities, providing social services, and handling delicate situations preferred.
  • Lived experience with poverty, housing insecurity or domestic violence preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.

Location & Hours: Supporting all campuses, but based at our San Diego Campus. Hybrid work environment which includes onsite work, local offsite events, and work from home opportunities. This position will work at least one weekend day a week. 

Pay: Starting range is between $18.25 – $20.53 pe r hour and is eligible for an hourly bilingual-Spanish premium. The actual hourly rate is determined by your related education and experience.
