Benefits & Leave Specialist needed for a distinguished medical university

Location: Onsite in Kenmore, WA
Employment Type: Contract, approximately 6 months

Our client is a private alternative medicine university with campuses in Washington and California. Students have access to specialized programs including naturopathy, acupuncture, Traditional Asian medicine, nutrition, herbal medicine, ayurvedic medicine, psychology, and midwifery.

As a Benefits & Leave Specialist , you willprovide a high-level of human resources support bymanaging and administering employee benefits programs, leave of absence programs, and workers’ compensation, ensuring compliance with company policies, federal and state laws, and providing exceptional customer service to employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and administers employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, disability, retirement plans, ancillary benefits, voluntary benefits, and employee perks and programs.
  • Manages benefit enrollment process, including providing information to employees, assisting with enrollment documents, and ensuring accurate and timely submission to benefit providers.
  • Responsible for measuring employee eligibility in accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
  • Collaborates with benefit providers to resolve employee inquiries, issues, and discrepancies related to benefits, and ensures prompt, equitable, and satisfactory resolution.
  • Provides guidance and support to employees on benefit-related matters, such as plan options, coverage details, and claims process.
  • Stays updated on changes to benefit plans, policies, and regulations, and communicates updates to employees and HR team members as needed.
  • Manages benefits administration technology to ensure accurate data processing.
  • Assists with the planning and administration of open enrollment, including communications, training and education, and processing.
  • Reconciles benefits accounts by reviewing and approving billing statements.
  • Conducts periodic audits and reviews of benefits data and reports to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies.
  • Processes and manages employee leave of absence requests in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and University policies.
  • Administers leaves of absence, including intake of leave requests, preparation and distribution of required notices, issuance of forms and letters, evaluation of certifications, determination of leave eligibility, and all communications.
  • Provides guidance to employees on leave of absence rights and options, eligibility requirements, and documentation needed.

What we're looking for:

  • At least 2-3 years of HR administrative support experience
  • Previous exposure to or experience with benefits and/or leave administration
  • Familiarity with federal and state LOA regulations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with HRIS systems, as well as standard office software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support diverse a employee base
